Stick Wall Sit Shoulder Flexion

Sitting against a wall with the thighs level, raise a stick on straight arms from the thighs to overhead until it touches the wall; the legs hold the sit throughout.

How to do it

Setup

Back flat on a wall, knees bent to about 90°, a stick held overhand on the thighs, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Raise the stick on straight arms until it touches the wall overhead.
  2. Keep the lower back and the head on the wall.
  3. Lower the stick to the thighs, the sit held.

Common mistakes

Lower back arching off the wall to reach it: raise only as far as the back stays flat. Elbows bending at the top: arms long, the shoulders make the reach. Hips sliding up the wall: keep the thighs level and the knees over the ankles.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
