Cable Alternate Shoulder Press
The standing cable shoulder press alternating arms: each handle is pressed on its own while the other stays at the shoulder against its cable.
How to do it
Setup
Between two low pulleys, a handle at each shoulder, palms forward, feet hip-width.
Steps
- Press one handle up until that arm is straight.
- Hold the other handle steady at the shoulder as its cable pulls.
- Lower the first handle and press the second; keep alternating.
Common mistakes
Letting the waiting cable pull that arm down: hold its handle firmly at the shoulder. Leaning away from the pressing arm: stay centered, trunk braced. Rushing the switch: lower one handle fully before the other goes up.
Breathing
Exhale pressing, inhale returning.
