Stick Standing Shoulder Mobilization in Extension

A stick held behind the back in both hands is pushed back and up, taking both arms into extension behind the trunk.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, a stick behind the hips held overhand at shoulder width, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Lift the stick back and away from the hips, arms straight.
  2. Keep the chest up and the torso from tipping forward.
  3. Lower the stick back to the hips and repeat.

Common mistakes

Leaning forward to raise the stick higher: stay upright; the range is the shoulders'. Bending the elbows: straight arms take the shoulders into extension. Shrugging the shoulders up: keep them down and back.

Breathing

Exhale lifting the stick, inhale lowering.
