Stick Standing Front Raise

A light stick raised from the thighs to shoulder height on straight arms, standing; the stick keeps both hands level through the arc.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, the stick across the thighs in an overhand grip, hands shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Raise the stick on straight arms to shoulder height.
  2. Keep the stick level and the trunk still.
  3. Lower it slowly back to the thighs.

Common mistakes

Rocking the hips to start the arc: stand tall and lift with the shoulders alone. Taking the stick above shoulder height: stop level with the shoulders; this raise ends there. Bending the elbows as the arms tire: long arms from the thighs to the top.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
