Standing Upper Body Rotation
Feet planted and hips facing forward, the upper body turns slowly to one side and then the other; a warm-up that takes the trunk through its rotation.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, feet shoulder-width, knees soft, arms folded at chest height.
Steps
- Turn the chest and shoulders to one side as far as the hips stay square.
- Let the head follow the chest, the feet flat on the floor.
- Come back through the middle and turn to the other side.
Common mistakes
Hips turning with the chest: keep them facing forward; the twist happens above them. Swinging hard into the end of the turn: rotate at an easy, even pace. Leaning to the side as you turn: stay tall through the crown of the head.
Breathing
Exhale turning, inhale coming back to the middle.
