Seated Lower Trunk Lateral Flexor Stretch

Seated upright on a chair with the hands behind the head, the trunk bends straight to one side, elbow toward hip, stretching the opposite side of the waist; held for time.

How to do it

Setup

Seated upright on a chair, buttocks and thighs flat on the seat, fingers laced behind the head, elbows wide in line with the shoulders.

Steps

  1. Bend sideways, moving one elbow down toward its hip.
  2. Keep both elbows back in one line, and hold where the far side pulls.
  3. Come up through the middle, then bend to the other side.

Common mistakes

Bending forward or back instead of sideways: move in one flat plane. Buttocks lifting off the far side of the seat: hook the feet around the chair legs. Elbows folding in toward the face: keep them wide and back.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
