Standing Leg Cross Abductor Stretch

Free-standing, one foot crossed behind the other, the back leg's hip pushes out to the side as the trunk leans the other way; no wall or bench.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, one foot crossed behind the other, hands on the hips.

Steps

  1. Push the hip of the back leg out to the side.
  2. Let the trunk lean the other way until the outer hip stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe, then uncross and switch legs.

Common mistakes

Losing balance on the crossed feet: take a narrower cross or rest a hand on something. Twisting the hips: they face the front throughout. Back leg softening at the knee: a straight back leg carries the pull to the side of the hip.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
