Smith Machine Incline Shoulder Raise

The incline shoulder raise under the Smith bar, whose fixed path keeps the short reach straight up and lets the hooks catch the bar at any point.

How to do it

Setup

Incline bench under the Smith bar, the bar unhooked at arm's length over the shoulders, grip shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Let the shoulder blades sink back into the bench.
  2. Drive the bar up along the rails by lifting the shoulders off the bench.
  3. Lower under control; re-hook the bar after the set.

Common mistakes

Bench set so the bar path misses the shoulders: line it up before loading. Elbows unlocking: arms straight, blades only. Letting the bar drop onto locked arms: lower it smoothly.

Breathing

Exhale reaching up, inhale lowering.
