Push-Up Plus
A push-up that ends with an extra push at the top: the shoulder blades spread apart and the upper back rounds slightly, working the serratus.
How to do it
Setup
Push-up position, hands below the shoulders, trunk braced.
Steps
- Bend the elbows and bring the chest near the floor.
- Straighten the arms to the top of the push-up.
- Then push the floor away further, spreading the shoulder blades.
- Let the blades come back together before the next rep.
Common mistakes
Bending the elbows during the plus: the arms stay locked; only the shoulder blades move. Hips rising with the extra push: keep the plank line. Skipping the plus when tired: it is the point of the exercise; cut the reps instead.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale pressing.
