Dumbbell Lying Straight Arm Press on Floor

Lying on the floor with a dumbbell in each hand on straight arms, push both toward the ceiling by spreading the shoulder blades apart.

How to do it

Setup

Lying on the back, knees bent, both bells held straight up over the shoulders.

Steps

  1. Push both bells toward the ceiling, the blades sliding apart.
  2. Pause at the top with the elbows locked.
  3. Lower the blades back to the floor slowly.

Common mistakes

Bending the elbows to push higher: the arms stay locked; the blades do the work. Bells drifting over the face: keep them over the shoulders. Lifting the lower back: only the shoulder blades move.

Breathing

Exhale reaching up, inhale lowering.
