Smith Machine Chair Squat
The Smith machine squat with the feet set well in front of the bar, sitting back as if onto a chair; the rails hold the bar's path while the hips travel back.
How to do it
Setup
Under the Smith bar, the bar across the upper back, feet placed well forward so the shins can stay upright.
Steps
- Unhook the bar and sit back until the thighs are parallel.
- Keep the shins near vertical, as if lowering onto a chair.
- Drive back up and rack the bar after the set.
Common mistakes
Feet under the bar: the chair squat needs them forward; step out. Knees drifting ahead of the toes: sit the hips back further. Dropping below the height of a chair: stop at parallel and stand.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale up.
