Smith Machine Front Leg Elevated Split Squat

The Smith machine split squat with the front foot on a low step; the rear knee can sink below the front foot for a deeper stretch.

How to do it

Setup

Bar across the upper back, front foot on a low step, rear foot on the floor.

Steps

  1. Unhook the bar and brace the trunk.
  2. Sink until the rear knee drops below the step's top.
  3. Drive up through the front foot.

Common mistakes

Step sliding on the floor: use a stable, non-slip one. Rear heel dropping: stay on the ball of the rear foot. Chasing depth with a rounded back: go only as low as the torso stays tall.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
