Smith Machine Bicep Curl
The barbell curl with the Smith machine's bar, which runs in fixed rails and racks on hooks at any height, with stoppers underneath.
How to do it
Setup
Standing inside the Smith machine, bar on the hooks at hip height, underhand grip at shoulder width, stoppers just below the thighs.
Steps
- Turn the bar off its hooks and let the arms hang straight.
- Curl the bar to the upper chest, elbows by the ribs.
- Lower along the rails; hook the bar after the set.
Common mistakes
Stoppers left at the floor: set them just below the start before the first rep. Leaning back to finish the rep: stay tall, lighter plates. Racking the bar without turning it onto the hooks: turn it until it seats.
Breathing
Exhale on the curl, inhale lowering.
