Smith Machine Bent-Over Narrow Pronated-Grip Row
The Smith-machine bent-over row with an overhand grip narrower than the shoulders; the elbows stay closer to the body than in the standard row.
How to do it
Setup
Bar on the rails at knee height, hinged to about 45°, overhand grip a little inside the shoulders.
Steps
- Row the bar to the lower ribs along the rails.
- Keep the elbows close as they pass the torso.
- Lower to long arms, hinge held.
Common mistakes
Hands so close the wrists bend: narrow, not touching. Standing where the rails fight the pull: set up so the bar meets the ribs. Rising out of the hinge: the angle is the exercise.
Breathing
Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
