Slopes Towards Stretch

The side bend with one arm sweeping over the head while the other slides down the leg; the overhead reach lengthens the lat.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, feet wider than the hips, arms at the sides.

Steps

  1. Sweep one arm up and over the head as the trunk bends the other way.
  2. Slide the lower hand down the side of the leg.
  3. Come back up through the middle and bend to the other side.

Common mistakes

Leaning forward or back: bend straight sideways, as if between two walls. Hips pushing out to the side: keep them over the feet. Collapsing onto the lower hand: the reaching arm leads, the lower hand only slides.

Breathing

Exhale bending over, inhale coming back up.
