Side Lat Stretch

Side-on to a wall, reach the far arm overhead to it and push the hips away; the side from hip to hand arcs and lengthens.

How to do it

Setup

Standing side-on to a wall, feet together a short step from it, the far arm reaching over the head to the wall.

Steps

  1. Press the hand into the wall above the head.
  2. Push the hips away from the wall until the side stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe, then turn round and switch sides.

Common mistakes

Chest turning to the wall: keep it facing forward so the side stays long. Hand creeping down the wall: keep it high above the head. Hips shooting out fast: shift them slowly to a firm stretch.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
