Sledge Hammer
Swing a sledgehammer from over the shoulder down onto a tire, the hips and the trunk driving the strike.
How to do it
Setup
Facing a large tire a hammer's length away, feet wider than the hips, one hand near the head of the handle and the other at its end.
Steps
- Raise the hammer over one shoulder, the hands apart on the handle.
- Swing it down onto the tire, the top hand sliding down to the other.
- Bend the knees with the strike, then lift the hammer for the next one.
Common mistakes
Striking with the arms alone: the hips and the trunk drive the hammer down. Rounding the back over the tire: bend the knees, keep the chest up. Standing too close: a hammer's length away, so the head lands flat on the rubber.
Breathing
Sharp exhale on each strike.
