Side Stretch Crunch

In a side plank on the straight arm with the top hand behind the head, the top elbow turns down under the body and opens back up to the ceiling.

How to do it

Setup

Side plank on the straight arm, hand under the shoulder, feet stacked, top hand behind the head.

Steps

  1. Turn the chest toward the floor, bringing the top elbow down under the body.
  2. Open back up until the elbow points at the ceiling.
  3. Keep the hips lifted; switch sides after the set.

Common mistakes

Hips dropping as the elbow comes under: keep them high and in line. Pulling on the head: the hand only rests there. Supporting shoulder sinking: push the floor away.

Breathing

Exhale turning down, inhale opening.
