Skater Jump

Bound sideways from one leg to the other, the trailing leg sweeping behind, landing soft on the outside foot; a speed skater's stride on the spot.

Skater Jump, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Athletic stance on one leg, knee soft, the other foot off the floor.

Steps

  1. Bound sideways onto the other leg, landing soft on the outside foot.
  2. The trailing leg sweeps behind, the arms swing across.
  3. Push straight back the other way; keep the rhythm.

Common mistakes

Landing on a straight knee: soft knee, hip back. The trailing foot touching down: it hovers behind, or the rep is a side step. Bounding tall instead of wide: distance is the standard, not height.

Breathing

Fast steady rhythm.
