Single-Leg Bench Squat

The single-leg squat to a bench at knee height; the bench stops the drop near parallel, a step before the full pistol.

How to do it

Setup

On one leg, back to a flat bench, arms and the free leg forward.

Steps

  1. Lower under control until the hips reach the bench.
  2. Keep the free leg up and the knee over the toes.
  3. Push up on the one leg without swinging the arms.

Common mistakes

Falling the last part onto the bench: control it all the way. Standing knee collapsing inward: track it over the toes. Heel lifting as you sit: keep the whole foot planted.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
