Single-Arm Overhead Dumbbell Squat

The squat with one dumbbell locked out overhead in one hand; the trunk and shoulder hold it over the middle of the foot.

How to do it

Setup

One dumbbell pressed overhead on a straight arm, feet shoulder-width, the free arm out.

Steps

  1. Squat down, eyes forward, the bell stacked over the shoulder.
  2. Keep the arm locked and vertical.
  3. Stand; switch arms after the set.

Common mistakes

Bell drifting forward: push it up and back over the shoulder. Torso leaning away from the bell: stay square. Elbow bending at depth: lock it or go lighter.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
