Single-Arm Lat Stretch Against Wall

Facing a wall with one straight arm high on it, sit the hips back and let the chest sink; the side of the back stretches from the hand to the hip.

How to do it

Setup

Facing a wall a step away, one arm straight with the palm high on it, the other hand on the ribs, knees soft.

Steps

  1. Sit the hips back and bend the knees as the chest sinks toward the floor.
  2. Keep the palm pinned and the arm straight until the side of the back pulls.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch arms.

Common mistakes

Palm sliding down the wall: set it high and keep it there. Rounding the back to go lower: keep it long and let the hips travel back. Shrugging the shoulder to the ear: draw the blade down before you sink.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
