Assisted Straight Arms Lying Stretch

Lying face up, arms overhead, a partner behind the head draws both wrists gently along the floor; the lats and chest lengthen.

How to do it

Setup

Lying face up, legs long, straight arms overhead; a partner squats behind the head holding both wrists.

Steps

  1. The partner leans back slowly, drawing the arms long.
  2. Keep the lower back and ribs down on the floor.
  3. Hold and breathe, then the partner eases off.

Common mistakes

Partner pulling hard at once: build the pull slowly and stop when you say. Ribs flaring off the floor: keep them heavy so the stretch stays in the arms and back. Arms drifting wide: keep them shoulder-width, in line with the body.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
