Seated Overhead Stretch on a Chair

Seated tall, fingers laced and palms turned up, press the hands toward the ceiling; the sides of the back and the arms lengthen.

How to do it

Setup

Seated tall on a chair, feet flat, fingers laced in front of the chest.

Steps

  1. Turn the palms out and press the hands up overhead.
  2. Reach up, shoulders down from the ears.
  3. Hold and breathe, then lower the arms slowly.

Common mistakes

Arching the lower back to go higher: ribs down, back upright. Shrugging to the ears: the arms reach, the shoulders stay low. Holding the breath at the top: slow, even breaths.

Breathing

Inhale reaching up, then breathe evenly in the hold.
