Puppy Pose

From all fours, walk the hands forward and melt the chest toward the floor while the hips stay over the knees; the lats and shoulders lengthen.

How to do it

Setup

On all fours, hips over the knees, the tops of the feet flat or the toes tucked.

Steps

  1. Walk the hands forward until the arms are long.
  2. Lower the chest and forehead toward the floor, hips still over the knees.
  3. Hold and breathe, then walk the hands back in.

Common mistakes

Hips drifting back toward the heels: keep them over the knees, or it turns into Child's Pose. Lower back sagging into an arch: draw the belly in and reach the tailbone back. Shoulders hunched to the ears: reach long and let them drop.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
