Side Twist
The Pilates side twist: from a side plank on one straight arm with the top arm reaching overhead, the chest turns down toward the floor and the arm sweeps under, then opens back up.
How to do it
Setup
Side plank on one straight arm, feet stacked or staggered, the top arm reaching overhead.
Steps
- Lift the hips high and turn the chest toward the floor.
- Sweep the top arm under the body.
- Open back to the side plank with the arm overhead, repeat, then switch sides.
Common mistakes
Hips sagging as the chest turns: lift them first, then turn. Supporting shoulder sinking: push the floor away. Rushing the twist: turn slowly and keep the feet steady.
Breathing
Exhale turning down, inhale opening.
