Shoulder Stretch Behind the Back

One hand reaches down behind the head from above and the other up the back from below until the fingers hook together; the top arm's back and the lower shoulder's front stretch.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, one arm raised with the elbow bent and the hand between the shoulder blades, the other hand behind the waist.

Steps

  1. Slide the lower hand up the spine toward the top hand.
  2. Hook the fingers together, or get as close as the shoulders allow.
  3. Hold and breathe, then release and switch arms.

Common mistakes

Forcing the hands to meet: stop where they reach; the gap closes over time. Top elbow pulling the head forward: keep the head upright behind it. Arching the lower back: ribs down, the shoulders do the work.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
