Shoulder Stretch with Towel Behind the Back
A towel held behind the back, one hand over the shoulder and one at the waist; each hand draws the other along the back in turn.
How to do it
Setup
Standing, a towel down the back: top hand behind the shoulder, bottom hand at the waist.
Steps
- Pull the towel up with the top hand, drawing the lower hand up the back.
- Hold where the lower shoulder stretches.
- Then pull down with the lower hand to stretch the top arm.
- Switch the hands and repeat.
Common mistakes
Yanking the towel: a slow, steady pull. Pinching pain at the front of the shoulder: ease off; strain there is a warning. Arching or leaning to help: stand tall; only the arms move.
Breathing
Breathe steadily; exhale as each pull deepens.
