Seated Behind Back Raise

Seated cross-legged with the hands clasped behind the back, lift the straight arms up and away from the back; the shoulders extend and the chest opens.

How to do it

Setup

Seated cross-legged, torso tall, hands clasped behind the back, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Lift the clasped hands up and away from the back.
  2. Squeeze the shoulder blades together at the top.
  3. Lower the hands back toward the floor slowly.

Common mistakes

Leaning forward to lift the hands higher: the torso stays upright. Elbows bending: keep the arms straight. Shoulders rolling forward at the top: open the chest and draw the blades back.

Breathing

Exhale raising, inhale lowering.
