Sandbag Walking Lunge

Walking lunges with a sandbag on the shoulders; the shifting load makes the trunk work far harder than a bar does.

Sandbag Walking Lunge, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Sandbag across the shoulders behind the neck, hands steadying it.

Steps

  1. Lunge forward, torso tall under the shifting load.
  2. Drive through and step into the next lunge.
  3. Re-settle the bag whenever it slides.

Common mistakes

Fighting the shift with a lean: absorb it with the trunk, stay tall. Bag riding the neck: on the SHOULDERS. Speed: the wobble is the workout; walk it slow.

Breathing

Inhale into the lunge, exhale driving through.
