Reverse Lunge

Step back into the lunge instead of forward; the knee travels less and the glute takes more.

Reverse Lunge, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, hands free or at the chest.

Steps

  1. Step BACK into the lunge.
  2. Front shin near vertical, back knee toward the floor.
  3. Drive through the front foot to return.

Common mistakes

Short back-steps: reach long; the front knee thanks you. Pushing off the back toes: the FRONT leg lifts. Torso pitching forward: tall through the step.

Breathing

Inhale stepping back, exhale returning.
