Rope Straight-Arm Pulldown, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Rope on the high pulley, ends in both hands, straight arms at eye level, slight hinge.

Steps

  1. Sweep the rope down to the thighs, arms straight.
  2. Spread the ends apart at the bottom.
  3. Return up the arc under tension.

Common mistakes

Bending into a pushdown: straight arms rule. Skipping the spread: the split finishes the lats' squeeze. Hunching over the cable: hinge slightly and keep the spine long.

Breathing

Exhale sweeping down, inhale returning.
