Lying face down on the machine with the torso fixed, raise straight legs to torso level and lower them slowly.

Reverse Hyperextension, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Lie face down on the pad, torso fixed, hands on the grips; legs hanging straight down.

Steps

  1. Raise the straight legs until they line up with the torso.
  2. Squeeze the glutes at the top for a beat.
  3. Lower slowly, without swinging.

Common mistakes

Swinging the legs for momentum: the glutes stop working; slow every rep. Lifting past the torso line: the lower back takes over; stop at level. Bending the knees: keep the legs long.

Breathing

Exhale as the legs rise, inhale on the way down.
