Reverse-Grip Machine Lat Pulldown

The underhand pulldown on a plate-loaded lever machine, palms facing you, the handles coming down in front of the face to the upper chest.

How to do it

Setup

Seated under the lever, thighs braced, hands underhand on the handles about shoulder-width, arms long.

Steps

  1. Pull the handles to the upper chest, elbows down and back.
  2. Squeeze with the chest tall and the wrists straight.
  3. Let the lever rise to long arms under control.

Common mistakes

Curling the weight up with the arms: the elbows drive down; the biceps only help. Chest collapsing toward the handles: sit tall and meet them high. Letting the plates drop: a slow, controlled stretch.

Breathing

Exhale pulling down, inhale returning.
