Resistance Band Standing Single-Arm Lateral Raise

A looped band stretched between the hands at the hips: one hand stays at the opposite hip as the anchor while the other raises out to the side.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, a flat looped band held across the front of the hips, one end in each hand.

Steps

  1. Pin the anchor hand to the opposite hip.
  2. Raise the working arm out to the side to shoulder height.
  3. Lower it slowly against the band's pull; switch sides after the set.

Common mistakes

The anchor hand drifting up with the band: keep it pinned to the hip. Bending the working elbow to ease the band: a long arm through the whole raise. Leaning away to stretch the band: stand tall and move only the arm.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
