Recumbent Knee Flexor Stretch with Towel

The doorway hamstring stretch with a towel looped over the ball of the raised foot, drawing the toes toward the head so the calf stretches along with the thigh; held for time.

How to do it

Setup

Lying on the back in a doorway, one leg straight up the frame, a towel looped over the ball of that foot, an end in each hand.

Steps

  1. Edge the hips toward the frame until the hamstrings stretch.
  2. Draw the towel so the toes come toward the head, and hold.
  3. Let the towel go slack, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Yanking the towel: draw it slowly; the calf needs only a gentle pull. Knee bending as the toes come back: keep the leg straight and ease the towel. Shoulders lifting to pull: let the arms work and the head rest.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
