One Arm Against Wall

Side-on to a wall with one elbow bent and high on it, lean the armpit toward the wall and ease back, a rhythmic stretch for the lat and the back of the arm.

How to do it

Setup

Standing side-on to a wall, one elbow bent and resting high on it with the hand behind the head, the other hand at the hip.

Steps

  1. Lean the chest and armpit toward the wall until the side of the back stretches.
  2. Ease back out without taking the elbow off the wall.
  3. Keep a slow rhythm for the set, then switch arms.

Common mistakes

Bouncing into the wall: lean in slowly and ease out the same way. Elbow slipping lower on the wall: set it above head height and keep it there. Arching the lower back to go deeper: ribs down; the stretch comes from the arm's side.

Breathing

Exhale leaning in, inhale easing out.
