Navy SEAL Burpee, illustrated

Navy SEAL Burpee

A burpee with three push-ups: after the first, drive one knee to the elbow and push up, then the other knee and push up again; then feet in and leap.

How to do it

Setup

Stand tall, feet shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Drop the hands to the floor and jump the feet back to a plank.
  2. Push-up one; at the top drive the right knee to the right elbow, then push-up two.
  3. Left knee to the left elbow, then push-up three.
  4. Jump the feet in and leap up.

Common mistakes

Knee drives turning into hip twists: the hips stay square to the floor. Half push-ups on the second and third: chest to the floor on all three. Losing count: say the three out loud.

Breathing

Exhale on every push-up and on the jump.
