Machine Belt Deadlift (V-Bar)

The deadlift on a belt squat machine with a V-bar clipped to the lever; the handle hangs at the shins, so the pull starts from an upright, squat-like position.

How to do it

Setup

On the platform facing the machine, feet hip-width, the V-bar gripped palms facing at shin height; hips low, chest up.

Steps

  1. Push through the whole foot and stand, the handle rising close to the legs.
  2. Finish tall with the hips through.
  3. Sit the hips back and down to return the handle to shin height.

Common mistakes

Chest collapsing at the start: set it up before the handle moves. Letting the lever swing the handle away from the legs: keep it close all the way. Hips shooting up first: legs and chest rise together.

Breathing

Inhale at the bottom, exhale after lockout.
