Lying Leg Raise Flat Bench
The lying leg raise on a flat bench, the hands holding its sides by the hips; straight legs travel from the bench line to vertical.
How to do it
Setup
Lying on a flat bench, legs straight, hands gripping the bench's sides by the hips, lower back pressed down.
Steps
- Raise the straight legs to vertical.
- Lower them until they are level with the bench.
- Keep the lower back on the bench the whole time.
Common mistakes
Lower back arching off the bench: stop the legs higher or soften the knees. Kicking the legs up with momentum: a slow lift, a slower return. Dropping below the bench line: the pelvis tips and the lower back takes over; stop level with the bench.
Breathing
Exhale as the legs rise, inhale as they lower.
