Lateral Stretch on Floor Lying Down

Lying on the back with the arms stretched overhead and apart, curve the upper body sideways along the floor and hold; the long side of the trunk opens.

How to do it

Setup

Lying on the back, legs long and together, arms stretched overhead on the floor, hands apart.

Steps

  1. Curve the upper body sideways along the floor, the arms leading.
  2. Hold the curve with the back flat and both shoulders down.
  3. Return through the middle and curve to the other side.

Common mistakes

Hips lifting off the floor: keep the whole back on it. Forcing the curve: let each exhale widen it a little. Shoulders creeping up toward the ears: keep them wide and down.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
