Kettlebell Half-Kneeling Side Lunge

The half-kneeling side lunge with a kettlebell held against the chest; the bell's weight helps the hips sink over the bent side leg.

How to do it

Setup

On one knee, the other leg long out to the side, a kettlebell held against the chest in both hands.

Steps

  1. Lower the hips toward the side foot, the bell staying against the chest.
  2. Hold the deepest point for a breath with the side knee over the toes.
  3. Press back until the side leg straightens.

Common mistakes

Bell pulling the torso forward: keep it tight to the chest and the back upright. Side heel lifting: sink only as low as the whole foot stays down. Kneeling knee on a hard floor: put a mat under it.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
