Jumping Pull-Up

From standing under the bar, jump up to grab it and let the jump carry you into a pull-up, then drop back to the floor; a conditioning move rather than a strength one.

How to do it

Setup

Standing under a bar you can reach with a jump, feet hip-width, arms ready overhead.

Steps

  1. Dip and jump, grabbing the bar overhand.
  2. Use the momentum to pull the chin over the bar.
  3. Lower to straight arms, let go and land softly with bent knees.

Common mistakes

Letting go at the top and dropping: lower to straight arms first, then land. Landing on straight legs: soft knees, whole feet. Missing the bar on tired jumps: slow down; a missed grab ends on the floor.

Breathing

Exhale on the jump and pull, inhale landing.
