Isometric Hold Wide Hand Push-Up

The bottom of a wide-hand push-up held still for time; the wide hands put more of the hold on the chest.

How to do it

Setup

High plank with the hands wider than the shoulders, fingers forward, feet hip-width.

Steps

  1. Lower until the chest is just above the floor between the hands.
  2. Hold there with the forearms close to vertical.
  3. Hold and breathe; time it, then press up.

Common mistakes

Hands so wide the shoulders ache: bring them in until the forearms stand upright. Hips lifting to ease the hold: one line from head to heels. Breath held to grit through: steady breaths.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
