Isometric Hold Push-Up

The bottom of a push-up held still, chest just above the floor and elbows bent, for time.

How to do it

Setup

High plank, hands under the shoulders, feet hip-width, body one line.

Steps

  1. Lower until the chest is just above the floor.
  2. Hold there with the elbows about 45° from the body.
  3. Hold and breathe; time it, then press up or set the knees down.

Common mistakes

Hips sagging as the hold drags on: squeeze the glutes and brace. Chest resting on the floor: hover; the effort is the hold. Holding the breath: breathe steadily through it.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
