Inverted Underhand-Grip Row between Chairs

The chair inverted row with the palms turned toward you on the stick; the underhand grip keeps the elbows close and adds the biceps.

How to do it

Setup

A sturdy stick across the backs of two heavy chairs, lying under it with an underhand grip shoulder-width, legs straight, heels down.

Steps

  1. Pull the chest to the stick, elbows close to the ribs.
  2. Squeeze the shoulder blades together.
  3. Lower yourself slowly to straight arms.

Common mistakes

Curling the stick toward the face: drive the elbows back and lift the chest. Chairs tipping inward: pull straight up and use heavy chairs. Hips sagging: squeeze the glutes.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale on the way down.
