Inverted Shrug (on Parallel Bars)
A shrug in a handstand on parallel bars: with the arms locked, the shoulders push up toward the ears and lift the whole body, then let it sink back.
How to do it
Setup
Upside down between the parallel bars in a handstand, hands on the bars, arms locked, body stacked over the hands.
Steps
- Push the shoulders up toward the ears to lift the body.
- Hold the top for a beat, arms still locked.
- Let the shoulders sink slowly back to the start.
Common mistakes
Elbows bending: that turns it into a handstand push-up; arms stay locked. Arching the lower back: ribs in, glutes tight, legs over the hands. Trying it on the bars before a steady handstand: learn the handstand against a wall first.
Breathing
Exhale pushing tall, inhale sinking.
