Dumbbell Decline Shrug

Face down on an inclined bench with the dumbbells hanging below, the shoulders shrug toward the ears along the line of the body; the bench takes the lower back out of it.

How to do it

Setup

Chest on the pad of an inclined bench, feet on the floor behind, a dumbbell hanging from each hand.

Steps

  1. Draw the shoulders up toward the ears, arms hanging straight.
  2. Squeeze the blades together slightly at the top.
  3. Lower until the arms hang long below the bench.

Common mistakes

Chest lifting off the pad: stay pressed into it; the support is the point. Bending the elbows to swing the bells up: the arms only hang. Neck craning to look ahead: eyes down, neck in line with the spine.

Breathing

Exhale on the shrug, inhale lowering.
