Cable Lying Shrug
Lying on the back on a flat bench, a bar on a low cable from the feet end pulls the shoulders down; shrug them toward the ears against it.
How to do it
Setup
Lying face up on a flat bench, feet toward the low pulley, the bar held at the thighs with straight arms.
Steps
- Draw the shoulders up toward the ears, sliding them along the bench.
- Pause with the shoulders up by the ears.
- Let the cable draw the shoulders back down slowly.
Common mistakes
Head lifting off the bench: keep it down, chin tucked. Bending the elbows to move the stack: the arms stay straight. Letting the cable yank the shoulders down: control the return.
Breathing
Exhale on the shrug, inhale lowering.
