Machine Shrug (Bench Press Machine)
The shrug done standing with the back to a bench press machine, holding its handles at the sides; the machine's arms guide the load straight up and down.
How to do it
Setup
Standing between the machine's handles, back to the bench, a handle in each hand at the sides, arms straight.
Steps
- Lift the handles by shrugging straight up.
- Hold the top for a moment.
- Lower the handles until the arms hang long.
Common mistakes
Standing ahead of the handles so they pull the arms back: stand right between them. Lifting with the legs: knees soft and still. Rushing the reps: a pause at the top and a slow lowering.
Breathing
Exhale on the shrug, inhale lowering.
